MARSHFIELD-ALGOMA
MARSHFIELD-ALGOMA™ provides customers, specifiers and channel partners a single brand to specify virtually any project with confidence. A single source for the broadest, most compelling offering in the wood door industry.
Marshfield Door Systems history is rich in innovation and technology. In 1965 the Weyerhaeuser Company, former parent company of Marshfield, opened a particleboard operation at the Marshfield complex. This particleboard plant was eventually converted to Steam Thru technology, which proved to be the most efficient technique for manufacturing particleboard door core.
Marshfield remains to this day the only door company that manufactures its own core and provides our competitors with much of their particleboard and fire-resistant core products. In 1995 Marshfield developed DoorBuilder, a quote and estimating software system. This quoting and estimating tool revolutionized the industry by shortening the time it takes to quote large projects, reducing costly mistakes and to help significantly shorten order lead times.
For more the six decades Algoma Hardwoods has produced and distributed the finest architectural and commercial wood doors in North America. In 1947, Algoma emerged as a leader in fire door construction with its introduction of the first wood-face mineral-core fire door.
In 1994, Algoma introduced the industry to factory-owned and operated Distribution Centers, reducing the time between order and delivery. Strategically located throughout the country and now known as MARSHFIELD-ALGOMA Express, these distribution Centers offer architectural doors in a wide variety of styles and species – in stock and ready for shipment. Commercial wood doors are also available from the Distribution Centers, special services include machining for hardware and lite openings, pre-finishing and resizing, as well as fired-rated door.
MOHAWK
Mohawk is an industry value brand leader for use in offices, hotels, dormitories, multi-family, schools, government projects, convention centers, stadiums and more.
Mohawk was founded in 1951 in Elkhart, IN. In 1956 the company was privately owned by Richard Swope and was moved to South Bend, IN to expand production capacity. In 1958 Swope expanded operations with a second facility he located in Sunbury, PA and subsequently moved to Northumberland. Swope himself moved to PA, and made Northumberland his corporate headquarters. Through superior service, quality, and innovation Mohawk quickly became the leading name in residential wood doors across the country.
In 1987, the company was sold to Nortek, a private equity company based in Providence, RI. It was at this time that Mohawk made a directional change to move from residential manufacturing to commercial and architectural. Mohawk joined American Wood Door and Castlegate Steel Doors to become the Nortek Door Group, and was subsequently sold to Premdor, now known as Masonite International in 1991.
